Artist Statement
My art is a combination of exploration, experimentation and expression.  I revel in the processes of the breaking down, the rebuilding, the combining, and the layering of the material with which I create.  My work is a reflection of the processes of nature – what is shed becomes the new.  Un-fired clay trimmings and pottery shards come full circle in my work.  Observing the small beetle in the garden, or finding shells on the beach – nature and her castoffs contain an endless array of color, texture, and deep runic beauty waiting to be explored.  It is an intimate relationship – the love of color, texture, pattern, beauty and the joy of creation.  In my quest to negate my negative impact on the environment, my artwork seemed the most obvious place to honor that desire.  From my raku fired re-claimed clay pieces to my tumbled pottery shard mosaics, I can make a personal statement – a statement that deeply attests to my love and reverence for art and also for our world
